About Stuart Mayes

Stuart Mayes is an artist based in Sweden who trained in the UK. He holds a BA in Art and Social Context from Dartington College of Arts and an MA in Fine Art Media from The Slade School of Fine Art in London, and has also studied at the Royal Institute of Art and Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts and Design. In his practice, Mayes works with installation, textiles, objects and performative elements.

Drawing on archival material, places and queer experiences, he explores how personal stories and marginalised histories are connected to broader political structures. His works engage both body and space, inviting new ways of experiencing and understanding history.
