From Saga to Present

In the exhibition From Saga to Present, we encounter art where the raw power of Icelandic nature merges with mythological tales. Through rugged mountain landscapes and steaming lava fields, we are guided into a world where the mythical and the visible reality blends together.

The exhibition explores shared roots and storytelling traditions that have shaped our cultural identities. In a world where the past is palpably alive, we are continually reminded of nature’s presence in the present.

From Saga to Present is the result of a creative collaboration between the twin cities Uppsala and Hafnarfjörður.

About the Twin City Collaboration

Uppsala Municipality has a twin city agreement with seven cities. The twin city exchange aims to establish partnerships for various types of collaborative projects. This exhibition is the result of a creative collaboration between the twin cities Uppsala and Hafnarfjörður.

This is the first time Uppsala is exchanging artworks in this way with its twin city in Iceland, and artworks from Uppsala’s collection will later be exhibited at the Hafnarborg – Hafnarfjörður Centre of Culture and Fine Art. The exhibition offers a unique insight into the art collections of each city and hopes to promote interest in Icelandic art and culture.
